Gypsy Mesquite delivers dark desert Americana blues, grounded by whiskey-worn lead vocals, swaggering trombone, dusty accordion, and sultry tremolo guitar. The result is a hybrid of cantina noir and outlaw country. The tracks pivot between gritty male-led anthems, haunting duets, soaring Joplin-style ballads, and Tarantino-esque cinematic ensembles.
"Terlingua Nights" drops August 28, 2026. The debut single from the debut EP The After - Side A, forged from a nomadic life across Austin, New Orleans, Mexico, and Far West Texas. Gypsy Mesquite is a modern collaboration with a gritty old soul.
A Human + AI Collaboration
What does that mean?
Let me describe my process.
First, I pick a topic that's grinding at me, something in my subconscious that won't let me rest.
Then I sit down with paper and pen and write out what I want to communicate. From there, I shoehorn it into lyrical format, working in rhythm and rhyme.
This is the stage where I take my finished lyrics and define the musical landscape: vocal style, tempo, instruments. Then I define the vocal arrangement, ensemble, solo, duet, whatever the song calls for.
Once I have all these pieces, I put them into AI to create a musical arrangement and performance. On average, it takes 100 to 140 remixes and revisions to grind out the closest match to what I'm hearing in my head. Sometimes I get lucky. Through practice at defining my vision, I'm able to reach an end product in under 20 remixes. It depends on the song, and how clear my vision is going in.
From there, I'll sometimes break out parts of the arrangement and tweak them manually in a DAW. Then it goes to mixing and mastering, skills I'm still developing.
The musical style and genre are deeply influenced by my surroundings, splitting my time between Texas and Mexico, with stretches in New Orleans.
The lyrics are direct pages from my life, the musical vision - direct from my soul.
While this may not be traditional song crafting, it is still a craft, and the results speak for themselves.
